animal control follow up

Well, I went to the Health department meeting in September about the problems with animal control. I took the emails and letters you all sent in response to my letter to the editor in the SNAP. They formed a subcommittee, and did absolutely nothing. Oh,they held a class on customer service. Really? Can you hear them laughing? Remember, no one stuck a gun to their heads and made them take these jobs, they wanted to do it.
Some of the health department committee members even nodded off and cleaned their fingernails during my three minute talk. So now I intend to not only ask for the dismissal of the animal control staff, but the members of the subcommittee, and the head of the Health Department. The county council appoints these folks and they can get rid of them. The citizens of this county can blog and chat, how about uniting against being dismissed by the people we put in office and get them to do something, for a change? Remember, a lot of them are up for re election next fall, and I will hold them all accountable, if they do nothing. So please write, email, the county council, the ASPCA, PETA, the local media..any one who will press for change. And don't bother with the local paper, the Editor gave out my non published phone number to numerous people, after I asked him not to. With that, they also got my street address. Isn't that against the law?
it takes a village...policeing each other

When I was growing up, if I misbeahved in public, other parents would scold me if my parents weren't around. We looked after each other's property, spoke up against things, out loud, in public, not only on chat lines. When I hit 40, I decided it was time to speak out again. Yes, if children are misbehaving, I speak out. Likke, where are your parents? Don't do that. That'snot yours, don't play with it. If the parent gives me lip, I say, where were you? Do you let your children behave like this all the time? or my sister's favorite: Were you raised or just running around wild?
I go to people who are parked in handicapped spaces illegaly, or my favorite, people who park in the yellow stripe area in front of the handicapped van spaces at walmart, and say, move or I'll call the police. If someone is being rude, I stare at them, then speak out. If someone were selling drugs on their cell phone, I'd say something. I've spoken up when two coworkers were being abused by their husbands. I've had guns pulled on me, but you know, most people like that are cowards. They talk a good game, but they never expect people to stand up, and since the local police aren't doing the job, we should and I am. I vote, I attend city.county meetings, and even spoke to our congressman recently.
We do need jobs in this county, and not all industry is bad. But stanly county is not doing the job. They let Dell, slip away, they let the wal mart distribution center slip away..and many others. And if congress does away with the shuttle program at NASA, what will happen to the Michelin plant? We all need to vote allthe old families out and run for office, or at least vote in the next year, all new people. Let's go vote today!
Animal control director, staff need to be replaced

Last week I called animal control because four cats that were in our yards everyday, went missing. Animal control did nothing.

On Monday, June 29, I called the Animal control office to see if perhaps the cats had ended up there. The woman who answered said they didn't have time to check, and I would have to drive out and look for myself. So, I did. They werent there, but there was a lovely Siamese cat in one of the cages. She was terrified and upon chasing down one of the employees, I learned she was turned in by her owner because she was 18 years old.

I asked were there any health problems with her and was told she was healthy. I asked if I could leave my name so that if she did not get adopted, I would adopt her, rather than see her killed.

I was brusquely told by the woman at the desk that they would not do that. So, I said I would go on and take her home now. Then they told me she was unadoptable because she was skittish and she might bite or scratch ... mind you, not that she had done this, but she might. It was about a half hour before closing.

I told them I had petted her through the bars of her cage and she was fine. But of course any animal, taken out of a home and thrust into a strange place, with barking dogs and howling cats would be skittish, and if they would just let me hold her in a quiet room, I could prove it to them. They refused. The supervisor, Gary Godwin, said that his opinion was final, that he would not listen to me, there would be no further discussion, nothing that I could say would change his mind, and that was all and he went back to his office, smiling.

I called the county managers office and they had Dennis Joyner call me back. He promised he would check it out and see what he could do so I could adopt the cat and even though I offered to reschedule my chemo, he promiced me nothing would happen to the cat.

I had chemo the next day, then , on Wednesday, called him back and left a message. Next, I called animal control and they told me they had already murdered the poor cat, just out of spite.

When Mr. Joyner called me back, he told me they had told him that the cat had major health issues. Obviously Gary Godwin and his staff lied to him. They not only told him a lie, but they immediately murdered a cat that was perfectly adoptable, after I had been promised that they would not do it for at least another day or so.

While I was there, no one offered to help people who came in to look for pets. Any time someone came in the kennel area, the staff members would disappear into the authorized personnel areas. I had to chase people down just to ask a question.

Even Mr. Joyner admitted that they kill more animals than they adopt. No wonder.

No one has ever come out to investigate the missing cats in my neighborhood, either.

Do you know if an animal comes in or is born in the shelter, and is too young to be neutered or spayed, they are immediately put to death? That pregnant dogs and cats are immediately put to death, with their unborn babies inside them, as county policy?

All these people are interested in is doing as little as possible.

They feel they have a job that they dont have to answer for, and can just murder any animal they dont like and can treat the tax payers of this county any way they choose.

Well, Mr. Godwin, you were laughing at me last week, since you got away with murder, but I wont be satisfied until you and your entire staff are replaced. I intend to report Stanly County to the ASPCA and anyone who cares about animal welfare in this county.

If you agree with me, then you should call Mr. Joyner and Andy Lucas, the county manager, and demand an entire staff change.

With 12.5 percent unemployment, Im sure they can be easily replaced with people who want a good job, and truly care about animals.

CIGARETTE SMOKING AT WALMART

I hope I am not alone in this complaint. I can not remember the last time I have walked in or walked out the Albemarle WalMart without having to pass through cigarette smoke of a WalMart employee. Why are the employees allowed to smoke at the doors? Have they never heard someone with asthma testify before the United States Congress how there bronchial tubes of their lungs close up and they feel like they are smothering? I have no lung issues, however, I feel it is rude the manager there refuses to do anything about this. I was so wishing the Target would come, but have heard that has been nixed. So we are stuck with the rude employees and rude manager at the WALMART for now. My heart goes out to the people with breathing problems. Sorry I do not think the WalMart manager has a heart!

Why do all the parks close at dark? I understand they do not want vandalism and most of it occurs after dark.
I would love to go to City Lake Park and take some night photography shots there. They always close when it gets dark. It would be nice if they could stay open for an hour after dark.

Am I the only one that feels that we need a new Sheriff? Plenty of good officers in this County and in the Police Department, but on the other hand I know of plenty of officers under our Sheriff who are unethical and lack morals. The word "crooked" comes to mind.

Stanly Co. kids have nothing to do that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Not only is the Stanly Co.Fair Too EXPENSIVE For family's with 2-3 kids. The Badin Festival's blow up bouncy thingies cost too much per.ride $1.00 X 2 or 3,4 tickets per ride.(not really rides but bouncy thingies) I have to tell my kids.'' I can't afford any more rides." but they don't understand..Kids fun should cheap or at least not so expensive. This includes the not for profit YMCA @ $170.00 for up to grade 5, $195.00 grade 6-12,and $854.00 for family Memberships PLUS $150.00 Endowment fee.And we ask why our kids get into drugs, teen sex, lawlessness,AND DIE in car wrecks.WAKE UP Stanly Co. our kids are our future and they look after us when we get too old to do so.

Trying to come up with a topic that might spark some life into this dull message board. ok, so let's think about the various parking lots around town. which is the worst? Harris Teeter wins my vote.
Harris Teeter and the other businesses at that same location are all very popular so the parking lot is always full, and traffic in & out of this parking lot increases during lunch & evening hours with folks going to the restaurants, dropping off and picking up their dry cleaning, or doing their grocery shopping. The shopping center is located on the corner of 2 busy streets, but there is only one way into and out of this busy parking lot. Why didn't they plan another entrance/exit for traffic on 1st Street?
Why is the Albemarle Christmas Parade held in the dark?

Anyone have any clue as to why we have the Albemarle Christmas Parade at night? And at 6:00pm? For people who work til 5pm, it can be hectic and stressful to leave work, get the kids, get them fed and bundled up, find a place to park, and get to a spot that offers good visability, all by 6:00pm.
Parking on the streets is limited anyway, so we park in a public lot or find somewhere to park on a side street then walk in the dark to and from the parade. How much fun is that?
When the parade was held in the daylight on Saturdays, it was much more enjoyable because you could actually see who was on the floats and you could see the faces of those marching in the bands and the officials riding in the cars.
Parking and traffic issues were better, and people's attitudes seemed happier. After the parade ended, we would do some shopping uptown or visit with folks we hadn't seen in awile. We didn't have to be concerned about it being a "school night," we didn't have to rush home so kids could get their homework done (or get fed if they didn't eat before the parade) and get to bed on time. It was much more relaxed and was just a lot more fun.
Where else in the world do they have parades in the dark?
message board so lame

Just curious, why are there many people viewing this message board and its posts, but so few commenting and leaving their opinions to be debated by others? There are important things going on within this community, but it seems like so few care enough to speak up and voice their opinions.
